Compose Messages in openSIS | In-App Messaging with Email Option

Compose and Send Messages (In-App, Email & SMS)

The Compose feature in openSIS allows teachers to send messages within the system (in-app) and optionally deliver them via email. SMS communication is handled separately through the SMS module.

Purpose

The Compose feature enables teachers to:

  • Send in-app messages to students, parents, and staff
  • Optionally send the same message via email
  • Communicate with multiple recipients or groups
  • Use AI tools for writing and translation

Accessing Compose

Navigate to:

Left Menu → Communication → Compose

Compose Screen Overview

1. Recipients

  • Add individual users (students, parents, staff)
  • Select Groups for bulk communication

2. Email Toggle (Important)

  • Toggle option: “Send this as an email also”
  • When enabled:
    • Message is sent as in-app notification + email
  • When disabled:
    • Message is sent only within openSIS (in-app)

3. Subject

  • Required for email communication
  • Helps define the purpose of the message

4. Message Body

  • Rich text editor for composing messages
  • Supports formatting and structured communication

5. AI Features (Within Compose)

  • Help Me Write – Assists in drafting messages
  • Auto Translation – Translates based on recipient language
  • Manual Language Selection – Choose a specific language

6. Attachments

  • Upload files from local system
  • Attach supporting documents to the message

Sending a Message

To send a message:

  1. Click Compose
  2. Add recipient(s) or select group(s)
  3. Enter subject (if email toggle is enabled)
  4. Write the message
  5. (Optional) Enable email toggle
  6. Click Send Message

Important Clarification

  • Compose = In-App Messaging (Primary)
  • Email = Optional (via toggle)
  • SMS = Separate module (not part of Compose)

When to Use Compose

Use Compose for:

  • Academic updates
  • Assignment reminders
  • Parent communication
  • General announcements
  • Sharing documents or attachments

Key Notes

  • Email delivery depends on configured SMTP settings
  • In-app messages are always stored within openSIS
  • AI features are optional and assist during message creation

Summary

The Compose feature provides a flexible communication tool that combines in-app messaging with optional email delivery. It ensures teachers can communicate effectively while keeping all interactions centralized within openSIS.
