Configure Communication Settings (SMTP & SMS)

The Settings section in the Communication module allows configuration of email (SMTP) and SMS services required for message delivery. These settings ensure that messages sent from openSIS are delivered successfully to recipients.


Purpose

The Settings module is used to:

  • Configure email (SMTP) server details
  • Enable email delivery for messages
  • Set up communication infrastructure
  • Support SMS delivery (based on configured providers)

Accessing Settings

Navigate to:

Left Menu → Communication → Settings


Email (SMTP) Configuration

The Settings screen displays email server configuration details.

Key Fields

  • Settings Type – Defines the configuration type (e.g., SMTP Relay)
  • SMTP Server / Host – Email server address
  • Port – Port used for SMTP communication
  • Username – Email account username
  • SMTP Password / App Password – Authentication credential
  • Encryption – Security protocol (e.g., SSL/TLS)
  • From Email Address – Sender email address

Adding or Updating Configuration

To configure SMTP:

  1. Click Add Information
  2. Enter required SMTP details
  3. Save the configuration

SMS Configuration (Overview)

  • SMS functionality depends on configured SMS gateway providers
  • Settings may be managed at system or administrative level
  • Teachers can use SMS only if the service is enabled

When Are These Settings Used?

These configurations are required for:

  • Sending messages via email (from Compose)
  • Delivering system-generated communication
  • Enabling SMS messaging (if configured)

Key Notes

  • Incorrect SMTP configuration may prevent email delivery
  • Access to settings may be restricted based on user role
  • SMS availability depends on active provider integration
  • It is recommended to use secure credentials (App Passwords where applicable)
