Enter Grades in openSIS (Gradebook)

Overview

The Gradebook Grades section allows teachers to enter and manage assignment-level grades for students throughout the marking period.

This is used for daily grading activities.


How to Access

  1. Go to Courses β†’ My Classes
  2. Select a class
  3. Click Grades
  4. Stay on Gradebook Grades

Enter Grades

  • Locate the assignment column (e.g., Homework, Project)
  • Enter the student’s score (e.g., 15 out of 20)

Notes
Grades are automatically included in calculations.


Use of Asterisk (*)

You can enter * instead of a score.

Meaning:

  • The student is exempt from the assignment
  • The assignment is excluded from grade calculation

When to use:

  • Student joined late
  • Medical or approved exemption

When You Cannot Enter Grades

You may see a blocked icon (🚫) instead of an input field.

Reason:

  • The student was not enrolled when the assignment was created

In this case:

  • Grading is not allowed for that assignment

What You See in Gradebook

  • Student Name and ID
  • Assignment columns
  • Points input fields (e.g., /20)
  • Running average and grade (if configured)

Filters and Options

  • Search β†’ Find students quickly
  • Include Inactive Students β†’ View past enrollments
  • Show Ungraded Only β†’ Focus on missing grades

LMS Integration (If Enabled)

Options like:

  • Get LMS Assignment Grades

Notes
Allows syncing grades from systems like Canvas or Moodle.

Use Gradebook Grades to:

  • Enter assignment scores
  • Track student performance continuously
  • Manage grading throughout the term

Limitations

  • Cannot grade students not enrolled at assignment time
  • Cannot override grading rules manually
  • Cannot submit final report grades from here
