Description
PayPal is a widely used online payment gateway that enables institutions to securely collect student fee payments through openSIS. By configuring PayPal, students and parents can make online payments using their PayPal accounts or other payment methods supported by PayPal.
To establish the connection, administrators must provide the required PayPal API credentials obtained from their PayPal Developer account.

Before You Begin
Before configuring PayPal, ensure that:
- You have an active PayPal Business account.
- You have access to the PayPal Developer Portal.
- Your PayPal API credentials have been generated.
- Your PayPal account is enabled to process live payments.
- Navigate to Settings → Billing & Fees → Online Payment Acceptance.
- Select the PayPal from the dropdown.
Enter the required PayPal credentials:
- Client ID
- Client Secret
- PayPal Business Email
- PayPal Merchant ID
- Review the information for accuracy.
- Click Save.
Once the configuration is saved, openSIS uses these credentials to securely communicate with PayPal for online payment processing.
Obtaining PayPal API Credentials
To retrieve your PayPal API credentials:
- Sign in to the PayPal Developer Dashboard.
- Create or select an existing application.
Copy the following credentials:
- Client ID
- Client Secret
- PayPal Business Email
- PayPal Merchant ID
- Paste them into the corresponding fields in openSIS.
- Save the configuration.
Important: Keep your Client Secret confidential and share it only with authorized administrators.
Testing the Configuration
After saving the configuration:
- Verify that the PayPal connection is successful.
- Perform a test transaction using the PayPal Sandbox environment, if available.
- Confirm that successful payments are reflected correctly in openSIS.
Testing the integration before accepting live payments helps ensure that the payment process functions as expected.
