Manage Behavior & Discipline (Referrals) in openSIS

Overview

The Behavior & Discipline (Referrals) module allows teachers to record, track, and manage student behavior incidents.

Teachers can:

Create new referrals
View referrals related to them
Edit and update referrals
Add comments and track actions
Close referrals after resolution

How to Access

Go to:
Behavior & Discipline → Referrals

Referral List View

This screen shows all referrals associated with the logged-in teacher.

A teacher will see referrals where:

They are the reporting staff, OR
They are assigned to the referral

Columns Explained

Date of Incident → When incident occurred
Referral ID → Unique identifier
Possible Motivation → Reason behind behavior
Problem Behavior (Major/Minor) → Categorized behavior
Student(s) Involved → Affected students
Reporting Staff → Who created the referral
Assigned To → Staff responsible for handling

Filters & Controls

Marking Period

Filter referrals by marking period
Example: Quarter, Semester

Search referrals quickly

Apply detailed filters

Open / Closed Toggle

Open → Active referrals
Closed → Resolved referrals

Tags Filter

Filter referrals using tags
Helps categorize incidents

Important Notes

Teachers only see referrals:
- Assigned to them
- Or created by them
Some fields may be:
- Configured by admin
- Required based on setup

Limitations

Cannot see all school referrals (role-based access)
Cannot modify admin-level configurations
Behavior categories depend on system setup

Best Practices

Provide detailed incident descriptions
Assign referrals promptly
Use tags for easy tracking
Close referrals after resolution
Add comments for transparency

Common Confusions
