Reassign Students in openSIS

Reassign Students

Overview

The Reassign Students feature allows administrators to move a student from one course section to another section of the same course. This is useful when students need to change class sections during an active academic session due to timetable adjustments, class balancing, or administrative requirements.

When a student is reassigned, the new teacher receives access to the student's existing attendance and gradebook information for that course, ensuring continuity in academic records.

Before You Begin

Before reassigning a student, ensure that:

  • The student is currently enrolled in a course section.
  • The destination course section has been created.
  • The correct academic year and marking period are selected.
  • The destination course section has available seats, if seat limits are enforced.

Reassign a Student

  1. Navigate to Scheduling > Reassign Student.
  2. Click the + icon to search for and select the current course section.
  3. Search for the required course section using the available filters.
  4. Click Search.
  5. Select the course section.
  6. Review the list of students currently enrolled in the selected course section.
  7. Select the student to be reassigned.
  8. Click the + icon to search for the destination course section.
  9. Search and select the new course section.
  10. Review the selected course section details.
  11. Click Reassign Student.

The selected student is removed from the original course section and enrolled in the new course section.

What Happens After Reassignment?

After the reassignment is completed:

  • The student is enrolled in the selected course section.
  • The student's schedule is updated.
  • The new teacher gains access to the student's existing attendance and gradebook information for that course.
  • Future attendance and grading continue under the new course section assignment.

Notes

  • Students can only be reassigned between course sections of the same course.
  • Reassignment helps maintain continuity without creating duplicate enrollments.
  • Verify the destination course section before completing the reassignment.
  • Ensure the student should no longer remain enrolled in the original course section.
