Send SMS from Teacher Portal

The SMS feature in the Communication module allows teachers to send direct text messages to students, parents, or groups. This is a dedicated communication channel used for quick and urgent updates.

Purpose

The SMS feature helps teachers to:

  • Send short and immediate messages
  • Communicate urgent updates quickly
  • Reach recipients who may not check in-app messages or email

Accessing SMS

Navigate to:

Left Menu → Communication → SMS

Click “Send New SMS” to open the SMS screen.

SMS Screen Overview

The SMS screen includes the following fields:

1. Recipients

  • Add individual users (students, parents, staff)
  • Select from Groups for bulk messaging

2. Groups

  • Displays selected group(s) (if any)
  • Helps send SMS to multiple recipients instantly

3. Description (Message Content)

  • Main content field for the SMS
  • Typically short and concise

Sending an SMS

To send an SMS:

  1. Click Send New SMS
  2. Add recipient(s) or select group(s)
  3. Enter message in Description field
  4. Click Send SMS

When to Use SMS

Use SMS for:

  • Urgent announcements
  • Schedule changes
  • Quick reminders
  • Emergency notifications

Important Clarification

  • SMS is separate from Compose
  • SMS messages are sent only as text messages
  • No subject line or rich formatting is available
  • Email and in-app messaging are not included in SMS

Key Notes

  • SMS delivery depends on configured SMS gateway settings
  • Message length may be limited based on SMS standards
  • Charges may apply depending on SMS provider
