Take Attendance in openSIS (Teacher Portal)

Overview

The Attendance tab allows teachers to record daily attendance for students in a class. It provides an easy interface to mark students as present, absent, tardy, or other attendance statuses.

This is a daily-use feature for teachers.


How to Access

  1. Go to Courses → My Classes
  2. Select a class
  3. Click on the Attendance tab


Select Date

At the top of the screen:

  • Choose the attendance date
  • Navigate between days using arrows or calendar picker

Notes
Ensures attendance is recorded for the correct day.


Student List

The screen displays all students in the class with:

  • Student Name
  • Student ID
  • Grade Level

Notes
Each student has selectable attendance options.


Attendance Codes

For each student, teachers can select an attendance status from the available options.

Important:
The attendance codes shown here are configured by the school administrator.

Examples may include:

  • Present
  • Absent
  • Tardy
  • Late
  • Half Day
  • Excused Absence

Warning
However, these options may vary depending on your school’s configuration.

Notes
Teachers can only select from predefined codes, not create or modify them.


Add Comments

  • Use the comment icon to add notes for a student
  • Useful for recording reasons (e.g., medical, late arrival)

System Notifications

You may see alerts such as:

  • “Attendance has not been taken for this period”
  • Missing attendance warning

Notes
These reminders help ensure attendance is not skipped.


Additional Options

  • Show Extra School Days → Include additional calendar days
  • Show Short Name → Display abbreviated student names

What You Can Do Here

Teachers can:

  • Mark attendance for each student
  • Update attendance for different dates
  • Add comments
  • View attendance status

Restrictions

Teachers cannot:

  • Create or edit attendance codes
  • Modify attendance rules
  • Modify attendance rules
  • Add new attendance codes

Notes
These are managed by administrators.


Best Practices

  • Take attendance at the start of each class
  • Review warnings to avoid missing records
  • Use comments for exceptions
