View Course Sections and Details in openSIS (Teacher Portal)
Overview
Each course in openSIS is divided into sections, which represent actual class groups assigned to teachers and students.
The Course Sections view helps teachers understand how a course is scheduled and delivered.
How to Access
- Go to Courses → Course Manager
- Select a course from the list
- Click on Sections
This opens the list of sections for that course.
Section List View
The section list displays all available sections under the selected course.
Each section includes:
- Section Name
- Marking Period
- Assigned Teacher(s)
- Seat availability (e.g., 20/20)
- Status indicator (Active/Inactive)
This provides a quick overview of all class groups under the course.
Section Details Panel
When a section is selected, detailed information is displayed.
1. Overview
Includes:
- Course Section Name
- Calendar
- Grade Scale
- Credit Hours
- Attendance Category (if configured)
2. Capacity and Availability
Displays:
- Total Seats
- Available Seats
Helps understand class capacity.
3. Course Settings
May include:
- Allow Student Conflict
- Allow Teacher Conflict
- Allow Room Conflict
- Course is Weighted
- Use Standards
- Virtual Class (if enabled)
These settings define how the section behaves in scheduling and grading.
4. Duration
Includes:
- Marking Period
- Start and End Dates
Defines when the section is active.
Displays:
- Period
- Time
- Room
- Meeting Days
Shows when and where the class takes place.
6. LMS Integration (If Applicable)
Includes:
- Synchronization status with external Learning Management Systems (LMS)
- Helps identify whether the course section is connected to an external learning system.
This may include integrations such as Canvas, Moodle, or other supported platforms.
Permissions
Teachers can:
- View all section details
- Understand scheduling and configuration
Teachers cannot:
- Create sections
- Edit section details
- Modify settings
All section configurations are managed by administrators.
