Configuring Online Payment Acceptance in openSIS

Configuring Online Payment Acceptance

Description

The Online Payment Acceptance settings allow institutions to enable and configure supported online payment gateways for collecting student fees electronically. Once configured, students and parents can securely make online payments using the payment methods supported by the selected gateway.

openSIS currently supports integration with Stripe and PayPal, allowing institutions to choose the payment provider that best fits their requirements.

Info
Settings → Billing & Fees → Online Payment Acceptance

Supported Payment Gateways

The Online Payment Acceptance page allows administrators to configure the following payment providers:

  • Stripe
  • PayPal

Each gateway requires its own account credentials before it can be used for processing online payments.

Configure a Payment Gateway

  1. Navigate to Settings → Billing & Fees → Online Payment Acceptance.
  2. Select the payment gateway you want to configure.
  3. Enter the credentials required by the payment provider.
  4. Save the configuration.
  5. Verify the connection before allowing users to make online payments.

Once configured successfully, the selected gateway becomes available for processing online fee payments.

Benefits of Online Payment Acceptance

Enabling online payments helps institutions:

  • Collect student fees electronically.
  • Reduce manual payment processing.
  • Provide parents and students with a convenient payment option.
  • Improve payment tracking.
  • Accelerate fee collection.
  • Maintain secure payment processing through trusted payment providers.

Choosing a Payment Gateway

When selecting an online payment provider, consider factors such as:

  • Supported payment methods
  • Transaction fees
  • Geographic availability
  • Supported currencies
  • Integration with your institution's financial processes

The appropriate gateway depends on your institution's operational requirements.

Notes

  • Online payment processing is available only after a payment gateway has been configured successfully.
  • Gateway credentials are supplied by the payment provider.
  • Institutions should test payment processing before making online payments available to users.
  • Payment gateways operate independently of the Payment Methods configured elsewhere in the Billing & Fees module.

Expected Outcome

Administrators understand how Online Payment Acceptance works in openSIS and are prepared to configure a supported payment gateway for secure electronic fee collection.
