How to Configure Date Format in School Settings
Overview
openSIS allows schools to configure a global date format based on regional or institutional preferences.
Once set, this date format is applied consistently across the entire system, including reports, profiles, forms, and system-generated dates.
This ensures clarity and avoids confusion for administrators, teachers, students, and parents—especially for institutions operating in different countries.
Navigation Path
Settings → School Settings → Date Format
Go to Settings from the main menu.
Select School Settings.
Click on Date Format.
From the dropdown, choose your preferred date format.
Click Update to save the changes.
You can choose from the following formats:
| Format Example | Description |
|---|
1/13/26 | Numeric format (MM/DD/YY) |
Jan 13, 2026 | Short month name |
January 13, 2026 | Full month name |
13/01/2026 | International format (DD/MM/YYYY) |
What Happens After Updating?
Existing stored dates are not changed, only how they are displayed.
Important Notes
- This is a school-level setting, not user-specific.
- Changing the date format affects all users under the selected school.
- We recommend setting this before the academic year begins for consistency.
Best Practice Recommendation
US-based schools → MM/DD/YYYY
International schools → DD/MM/YYYY or full month format
Government or compliance-heavy institutions → Full month formats (e.g., January 13, 2026) for clarity
